When you add a domain name as hosted in some account, you normally set a pair of Name Servers to point it to that particular company. On their end, 3 records are created automatically when the domain is added - one A record and two MX records. The former is a numeric address, or IP address, which “tells” the domain name where its website is, while the other two are alphanumeric and they indicate the server that deals with the e-mails for that particular domain name. The website and the e-mail hosting are usually thought to be one thing, while they're in reality two different services. Having independent records for them will allow you to have them with different providers if you wish. For instance, some new provider might have excellent uptime for your site, but you might not want to switch your emails from your current host and by employing an A record to point the domain address to the former and MX records to have the e-mails with the latter, you will get the best of both companies. These records are checked when you want to open a site or send an e-mail - in either case, the service provider whose name servers are used for the domain will be contacted to retrieve the A and MX records and if you've set records different from their own, the right web/mail server will then be contacted and you'll see the needed site or your e-mail is going to be delivered.

Custom MX and A Records in Shared Hosting

If you have a Linux shared hosting package from our company, you are going to be able to see, set up and change any A or MX record for your domain names. Assuming that a particular domain has our Name Servers, you'll be able to modify certain records through our Hepsia hosting CP and have your site or e-mails pointed to any other service provider if you would like to use only one of our services. Our innovative tool will permit you to have a domain hosted here and a subdomain below it to be hosted elsewhere by modifying only its A record - this will not affect the main domain at all. If you decide to use the email services of another provider and they want you to set up more than 2 MX records, you can easily do that with only a few mouse clicks within the DNS Records section of your Control Panel. You can also set different latency for each MX record i.e. which one is going to have priority.

Custom MX and A Records in Semi-dedicated Hosting

The Hepsia hosting Control Panel, which comes with our Linux semi-dedicated hosting packages, allows you to see the A and MX records for any of the domain addresses or subdomains in your account and if necessary, to change any of them or set up new ones. Managing these records is incredibly easy since all domains/subdomains will be listed alphabetically, so modifying a record is as easy as entering it in a box and saving the change. Creating a new one takes a few more clicks and in case you experience any troubles, you can check out our video tutorials on how to create A and MX records. Our system is intuitive enough to be used by individuals with little or no previous experience, yet sophisticated enough to offer you full control of all records and to permit you to have different A records even for domain.com and www.domain.com. If you are pointing your emails to a different company and they ask you to create more than two different MX records, you can choose the priority of each one.
